If you have an engine hoist, use a strap and hook the pockets in the bed rails. When I pulled my bed to do cab corners, all it took was an engine hoist on the tailgate end and two guys on the other and we had the bed completely off in no time. The bed doesn't have to come all the way off to do the corners, but it makes it much easier to work.

Thats a good idea. because my under side of my bed is rusted, but my external fenders and bed rails are great. How did you strap it to the bed?

I used a ratchet strap and just hooked the stake pocket on each side. Then used the hoist to lift from the center of the strap. Make sure you use a heavy duty strap or even better a lifting chain if you've got one.
Here's a picture that kinda shows what I'm talking about. I just pulled the bed off again to paint it so ill see if I can get a better picture this weekend.

If you have a lift at your disposal I hooked a strap to each stake post pocket and lifted it off the truck frame. Grab a small stool and have at it.

I used my lift to raise it enough to slide the two long pieces of oak under my bed, then used the square tube steel to lift the wood and added blocks to hold it up between the frame and bed.

That might work, but the only issue is my bed is pretty rotted out. think it will hold?

Did you just hook it to the bed rail pockets and lift? it didnt bend the bed rails at all?

Correct, just some straps hooked into the stake pockets. I did not experience any bending or incorrect lines afterwards. It all went back together as perfect as it'll ever be

Love this kinda thread! I used to own an 89 Toyota pickup, and when it was time to paint the thing, we lifted the bed off the truck with just two guys, one on each side, and shuffled backwards until we could lower the bed on two sawhorses. Can't do that with the GMT 400s, but maybe with four guys?

Four would get a long bed, I bet two could do a shortbed, especially if the tires were off it so you could just scoot it.
