I've recently had success with the Lucas Trans additive. I know the 4L60E in the beater Chev is on its way out. 205k kms, started slipping a bit, getting a lazy 2-3 shift and lockup in 4th stutters. The Lucas has it working great again, but how how long is the question. Already have a known good used trans to swap in. I just want to see how long the Lucas keeps it going.

Additives may or may not work for you, but you must know that its a gamble, and at the very best, a temporary band aid solution.

We do 4l60es at work for 750 for a stock and 850 for a hd unit(on the bench) custom units run from 850 to 5500. Most people dont need a 5500 unit and i can promise you our stock unit gets more parts than monsters 450hp unit

Guy I work with occasionally buys and sells vehicles, just for something to do. The other day he told me he had chopped up bananas real fine and shoved em in a tranny and that supposedly kept it from slipping long enough to sell it to some poor guy. Not too sure how that possibly coulda worked but Im glad he told me that before I someday made the mistake of buying anything from him.

This month's Consumer Reports has a short piece on auto trans flushes. In a nutshell, if you've serviced the tranny throughout its life, a trans flush is ok. If you've never serviced (fluid and filter change) the tranny, they recommend NOT flushing. Their reasoning is that the crud in the old fluid helps the worn out clutches and bands grip.

Bananas! WOW! When I was a young guy, folks used to put fine sawdust or oatmeal in rear axles and manual trannies to shut them up for resale purposes. Kinda similar to Model A Fords getting emergency roadside rod bearing service by using a piece of your leather belt instead of a real rod bearing.

Well I ended up getting the trans rebuilt for 800 and paid a buddy of mine 400 for his help and use of his lift and tools for the pull and install. All in all I'm happy with it. Now I need new tires.

All you can do is Put in Lubegard and Lucas Trans Fix and take it easy, stock rebuild should be around $1700
