Few pics from today, roof is down to bare steel, and figured out why passenger door rattled over every bump. Inside door panel missing a few screws or rivets and flopping around in there. Slow going, tons of sanding but want a nice surface for new base coat clear coat.

My buddy was by the house this morning. This is the 96 Sierra SLE that Dad bought new in 96, then sold to my grandfather, who then sold it to my cousin, who then sold it to a buddy of ours. I learned to drive in this truck back in 96. It’s now sporting 321k miles and looks a little rough but still a DD.

Shop got the cab corners and wheel arch patch panel set up. Wasn’t exactly what I was expecting to see. My guy wasn’t there so I didn’t get to talk about the methodology yet. Looks like it has a black epoxy and screws holding it in place. I assume they will weld it next, or maybe it’s already welded and the black epoxy is seam sealer? Anyone have thoughts on the methodology being used in this photo ?

I was also expecting them to take the patch up higher on the bed side but I guess once you get to solid metal there’s really no benefit in cutting out more.

It looks like they are using 3M panel bonding adhesive. The panel bonding adhesive is very, very strong. In some instances it is stronger than a weld. Nearly every OEM has been using panel bonding adhesive for over a decade.

Friday update for the week. More primer, sanding and body filling, tedious but they’re taking the time to get it right. I think the sequence is high build primer, 180 grit block sand, minor filling, primer, 220 hand sand & machine sand, primer, 400 wet sand finish before base coat. Hoping for a pretty smooth surface after this much sand/fill/prime. Then after base coat (two tone) make sure the two tone line is smooth and 3 coats of clear. This week we’re still on the first 180 block and fill step.

For only $21 delivered, I’ll take a flier. Haven’t seen many that have the built in armrest hole and cover + headrest cover. My stock seats are pretty decent for 25 years old, and this cover is pretty ugly but will keep the dog hair and kids from ruining the factory fabric any faster than necessary. Rolling the dice here even if it’s a POS only out $20 and can turn it into a dog bed.
