Hey guys, long time forum user here. Glad to see this forum still looks pretty active. Username comes from my now-dying obsession with Honda Preludes.
Just picked up a k1500 Sierra 5spd 4x4 with 180,000 km on it. She's good from far, far from good. The problems include: rust fixed badly by PO, warped rotors, unsafe looking old M/Ts, visibly bad alignment on the driver side front, exhaust a little loud for my taste, badly cracked windshield, no spare tire. I don't like the ride from the cranked front suspension but I do like the ground clearance, so not sure what to do there. Got an oil leak, haven't figured out from where yet. Oh and this thing has the worst headlights I've ever seen, even after polishing them.
Something sparked in the headlight switch first time I hooked up a trailer, and now I have working headlights but no taillights or dash illumination.
I'm gonna ignore the body issues as this is a stonemasonry work truck. Plans for now are get the lights working again (new switch on order from rockauto), new headlights (ordered Spec-D tuning ones, my expectations are low but at least they have a glare shield for the HIR bulbs I want to use)
Then I'll get a stereo going (dash kit ordered) and some new tires, thinking General Grabber ATX in stock size? Picked up an extra wheel from junkyard and can probably run one of these crap M/Ts as a spare then. Plan to get an alignment with the new tires.
I've got a lead on a 2500 parts truck for $500. You guys think it's worth it? Has a new windshield, alt, water pump, rad, and of course I could use the leafs off it. Trying to decide if I should go that route or bag the truck for better hauling. Wallet says leafs, but heart says bags because I wanna enjoy the ride when I go up in the mountains.
I need a headache rack and a toolbox, so many ways to spend money...
Lots to learn for me as a Honda guy!
