Probably not the most relevant topic, but I thought Id let yall know that the tbi system does have a rev limiter at least on the 350. It hits at 5200 rpm, which is probably why no one knew, I must be the only one revving my poor toilet heads that high.

Some years have them, some do not. Typically if it has an electronically controlled transmission aka 4L60E or 4L80E it will. If it has a mechanical trans like a TH375 aka 3L80 or 700r4 it does not.

The TBI's with electronic automatics got a PCM that could do the job; the spark control module is built into it. The earlier automatics and all the standards got a regular ECM, guessing it's not capable. Wouldn't know from personal experience though; never tried to grenade one just to see if it would happen...though I do recall blowing up one of my older TBI's racing it and manually shifting the 700R4. Next day it sounded like I had a miniature machine shop under the hood, and the oil was glitter paint.

Yeah, at least mine doesn't sound really happy above 4,500 and it runs out of steam around 4,000 anyway.

The camshaft and valve springs are going to be a factor in max rpm's on a SBC, especially a factory set up. Better valve springs, higher lift cam, stronger push rods , stronger rocker arms and cylinder heads/intake/fuel delevry that will flow enough air to make use of the additional lift will get you a lot of rpm's. SBC's are capable of 10,000 rpm"s IF the engine is properly speced and assembled.

Open the ECM up and see if it has a custom chip. I've been tuning my car and truck for the last year and see RPM limiter values.
