Could I use a 4.3 s10 converter with stock everything? And I will notice a difference? Thanks

Can you? Yes.

Will you notice a difference? Yes.

Will it be a positive improvement? Probably not.

A higher stall converter allows the engine to rev higher before the level of slip is overcome. Higher engine torque and vehicle weight, rear gears affect relative stall speed. Higher stall speeds heat the fluid faster.

Unless you plan to start changing components in the engine that will alter the power band, it wouldn’t be my first move. I’ve heard of People being happy with a higher stall on a stock setup, but I can’t imagine I would be.

Having done the swap multiple times, the difference is very noticeable and I would recomeend the change for anyone considering it. I was happy with the 4.3 converter in my Express van with the stock 3.42 gears.

Edit-I will also add that we put one in the 99 Suburban my brother had. It had a stock engine that I stuck a F-car LT1 cam into, long tube headers and a Volant CAI. It drove like a stock suburban with ALOT more get up and go. Common misconception is that a vehicle will not move until the converter reaches the stall speed and that is simply not the case. Under less than WOT it was not much looser than stock. I have a video clip of a light throttle acceleration and the tach was not much over 2,500 rpm.
