How would I get that heater hose out without the clip to press and release it?

Magimerlin: Can you link to a hose type nipple that you would suggest for this application? My trucks info/details is in signature below 5.7L 350

Much appreciated

If you pull this part you might as well replace it. Theyre cheap and at any parts store. No reason not to replace it unless its new i guess. Mine failed in my driveway (luckily) and It took about 5 minutes to fix. But, I did loose a decent amount of coolant.

Get rid of that quick connect and go with the traditional type fitting. That quick connect is for manufacturing speed, not ease of repair.

The original fitting has a restriction in it to limit the flow of water through the heater core. I used an old 1/4" drive socket that just fit in the hose as a restriction. I used another hose clamp to hold that in place firmly right by the new and improved, old style fitting. Seeing as that looks very original, I'd replace both heater hoses and flush out the heater core by running water through it both ways when I was at it. You'd be amazed at the rust and sediment that will come out.
