F44 is the RPO code for the 14SF 6 lug axle, or in other words, the "LD 2500" package. I could be wrong though, but I know it has something to deal with the extra rear spring and the 14SF 6 lug axle.

Anyways, I think the 14SF 6 lug only came in the 2500 LDs, IIRC, I could be wrong.

I’m sure I’ve read on this site they came in the half tons. IIRC the F44 is the heavy duty only on half ton package.

Throw out the phrase “Heavy Half” and watch this thread blow up with weather or not it exists in this series of truck.

The "name" of the axle is the numbre of bolt on the diff cover ? I have 14 bolts !

You talk of RPO code F44 .. what is that ?

To an extent. Often the ring gear size will get acknowledgement. Ford 8.8 or 9 inch.

There is the passenger car duty corporate 10 bolt 8.5 and 8.6. Same axle different carrier.

There is a 14 bolt heavier duty full floater axle. Yours looks like the lighter duty 14 bolt semi floater.

Dana 44, 50, 60, 70 and 80 each have 10 bolts.

There is a truck and a passenger car versions of the 12 bolt.

As mentioned earlier, F44 is a spring axle package. But again I’m not privy to the break down of what years got what spring pack.

F44 is the heavy half. LD2500 came with the same axle and very similar leaf pack. They look identical, but the overloads were a different color. One has a green mark and the other blue. I forget which is which.
