That'd be a nice way to do it. Then, you could overhaul the old 454, and sell it, probably damn near break even on it all.

That's what I was thinking, if I at least did a stock rebuild on the old 454, just get all the clearances back to factory measurements and whatnot I could clear right around 3K on it; which would cover the cam swap and everything involved in that.

Pricing out camshafts and stuff has really got me thinking too, just do a basic rebuild with some upgraded pistons, a port and polish, and just do the basics for the cam; a Comp XR264HR (01-411-08), pushrods (which one was the better size?), adjustable rocker arm retrofit, new springs, and probably 1.72 roller rockers if they'll fit.

Anything I left out? And with the tune, what HP/TQ range would I be at?

Might want to get some different injectors too, then have that changed in the tune. Some ls1 injectors should work fine. Otherwise, I think you have most of the stuff. I really don't know what to expect on the hp/tq, maybe +50 or 60 on each? @Supercharged111 may have more input here.

For my oil gauge, during idle, it sits about where yours does Brody. I have been told these Vortecs are known for that. When cruising, they will go back up to 40.

Ok so this is my idle oil pressure. So yours is fine

Well, it gives me a little piece of mind; I jumped out of my skin earlier when I had the truck in drive, but my foot on the brake and the oil pressure gauge was two ticks above zero though.

Debating on having my other Esky cluster sent out to be rebuilt because I have a feeling these gauges aren't 100%, at least I know the temp isn't.

Pretty sure the tune gives something on the order of 40 ft/lb, then add exhaust to that.

My 454 has more oil pressure than my 350. It's around 75 cold, then still over 60 warm cruise. I don't think it ever gets below 40 even warm idle.

How's the Shitliner do headed into a Shitwind Brody?

I guess the question would be "How much would my life (or my truck) be improved by this new engine considering the number of hours it would take out of my life to get the project done. How much will your transport from A to B or haul or tow stuff from A to B be improved by doing this ? Do you have a reliable climate controlled place to do the work?

Then you will know if it is worth it .

I think it'd be pretty improved; I'll be doing a fair amount of towing in the future, whether it be a slide in camper with ATVs/Jeep or trail rig/stock car, and pulling trucks to part out and sell, and plus, who doesn't like more power?
And I could more than likely beg enough to be let into a decent, climate controlled climate. I figure I'd let someone else do the rebuild and put it back together, and then swap the cam myself, and then break it all in on one go...ideally of course.

Exhaust will probably be shorty headers, no cats, full 2 1/2 inch through my Jones muffler with an H-pipe in front.
And it does decent; but it could always do better. Me and a buddy were out driving around and I punched it; it surprised both of us to tell you the truth. And my oil pressure shot up to almost 80; but I was cooking almost 3500 rpms before I let off.

I'm thinking shorties and dual 3" into single 4". Chop the piping off the stock cats since they flare up anyway and hook the 3" piping up to that. Better yet though would be if I could score some newer 3" Corvette canister style cats. Then I could just take those to an exhaust shop and let them fab front to back. I like the way the dually smells of nothing even though the blue truck doesn't stink all that much.

I've thought about going back to a dual in single out with a Magnaflow or something similar; but for now I'll plan with true duals in mind.
I wonder if my smelly exhaust could be from my cats going bad; my truck isn't throwing any codes though.
