Check the ground for the ecm on the thermostat housing stud. If you cycle your key on and the check engine light doesn’t illuminate, you may not be getting a ground to/from the ecm. I had the same issue after having most of my harness disassembled in my truck for the last 10 years.
I was going to suggest getting an ep381 from rock auto, but it appears they’re out of stock. I had to get a larger diameter fuel hose for the sending unit in my 88, as the feed line inlet in the tank was larger than the pump IIRC.
