Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

Of course after getting everything together I ran into an issue. The clutch I used was an 88 style. Apparently the pressure plate on the 96+ must be thicker bc the internal slave doesn't reach all the way. Guess I'll have to get a 96+ Pressure plate and try again... :gunner:

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

Dang! I wish I had known. I actually was able To get the MC to fit. I followed your advice with the die grinder but what really worked well Was a rotary file bit on a drill. I had to remove the clutch pedal assembly from inside bc the steel on it was sandwiched behind the firewall and was far...

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

Alright I've got a die grinder too. I just need to get some good cutting bits. I'll keep you updated! Thanks again. Another quick question since you've done the swap yourself. I am trying to figure out what to do for the driveshaft. Mine is a 2WD and the stock transmission used a solid...

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

Thanks again Richard! You are the man! I ordered the adapters just in case but I am going to try to cut out the firewall with a dremel. I had the same concern with the multiple layers of the firewall but I'll follow your advice of keeping the steel cool as I cut. I actually was trying to slide...

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

I think you're right... It's always the smallest things that make a swap like this difficult. Trying to make the square peg fit into the round hole. :suicide:

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

So I am in the process of doing my NV4500 swap but I am having an issue with getting the internal slave to work. The clutch master cylinder for the internal slave attaches to the firewall differently than the MC that originally came on my 88. The original set up is the traditionally 2 studs...

Have you ever wondered what happened to your old truck?

My first car was a 76 Jeep CJ5 with a 304 V8. I did all sorts of stuff to it. Lifted it 7", swapped in Dana 44 axles from a Scout with 4.10 gears, swapped in a T19 4 speed transmission, etc. I sold it to a guy in the military back in 2004. He emailed me in 2010 bc he was trying to title it...

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

HeavyChevy, yours in a 98, correct? That's how the line is on the newer 96+ GMT400s but on the older ones (mine is an 88), it is a threaded fitting. I might just have to bite the bullet and buy the newer MC with the proper hydraulic line. I have found these adapters...

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

Thanks Richard. I am currently trying to sort out how to use my stock clutch MC with the internal slave. My MC (for external slave) has a threaded -AN fitting whereas the internal slave has GM's attachment. I am searching for an adapter that would help me avoid having to buy the expensive...

    Question about AC compressor drag

My suspicion was that the compressor is failing and that's where all that drag is coming from. It makes complete sense bc the amount of drag and noise I was experiencing could not be normal. I don't ever run the AC bc of that. I'll probably just continue to run the vent and windows open, but...

    Question about AC compressor drag

It's an R12 system. I believe they changed in 93 to R134a. I guess my question is how much drag is normal on these GMT400s? The only other truck of this era I had was an 88 Suburban 2500 with a 454. IF there was any drag from the compressor, you'd never know it with the 454. My truck...

    Question about AC compressor drag

So I didn't know where else to put this question. I figure it's pretty much an engine maintenance question.... I have an 88 GMT400 and the AC works on it, but cutting it on causes a HUGE amount of drag. The compressor also makes a good bit of noise when cut on (almost like grinding). It works...

    2000 Silverado Classic 2500 CCSB 454

Awesome truck and great work! It looks brand new. Maybe it's just my age (i'm 30 so I grew up in the GMT400 "era"), but I think these are the best era trucks ever made. Sure, they can be electrical nightmares, but nothing beats a good GMT400

Slave: Internal or External? Which is better?

One more question, does anyone know if the internal slave uses the same release bearing as the external slave set up?

    98 GMC K2500 454 Build

Very nice truck! I kind of wish I had waited and started with a 2500 like this one. Only thing is I've had an 88 2500 HD suburban with a 454, auto and 4.10s and the thing was TERRIBLE on gas... Kinda scared me from a big block but you can't really match that power! I know this is probably a...
