Texas Speed and Performance engine swap progress

It kind of makes me want to rip out the TPI conversion I did and go LS. But that's just so much work, I'm too lazy.

Texas Speed and Performance engine swap progress

So far they have removed the transmission and engine. Links below if anyone wants to catch up and follow along. https://www.youtube.com/user/TXSpeedPerformance/videos

    TBI to TPI conversion (MPFI)

I'm sure someone could knock it out over the weekend if they had all of the parts. But for me it was a learning process so it took weeks, ordering parts and tuning. You'll need a chip burner and chip, the intake, throttle body (LT1 or TPI doesnt matter), higher pressure fuel pump (from 96-98...

Replacing Vortec fuel pump, pulling bed

That might be another good reason for removing the bed. When I did mine, it was filthy underneath. Not rust, just globs of dirt and mud that couldn't be power washed without the bed gone.

Replacing Vortec fuel pump, pulling bed

I dont know what they are called. They just keep the bed attached to the frame. When I was putting a vortec fuel pump place of the TBI one when doing the TPI conversion I decided to scoot the bed back instead of doing the tip method, or dropping the tank. I took off the bumper, tail lights, and...

    1989 Chevy 2500 4x4 350 starting and running issues

Never forget about the ignition control module. I cant remember how those are tested though.

    Knock Count

So it's running rich (not by a whole lot though). Maybe it is time for a TB cleanup and injector replace. I did that on my truck (back before the TPI conversion) and it helped a lot.

    Knock Count

Are you sure it doesnt have like a custom chip? which advances the timing at higher RPMs and you just need to fill up on premium.

    Knock Count

Bump up the octane you buy and see if that solves it. I hear that carbon deposits all over the insides can increase compression as a motor gets older.

    Air intake question.

TPI and LT1 throttle bodies have ports flowing radiator fluid them to keep the TB hot, so I assume it's the same principle (icing on throttle blades) and not just a carb and TBI thing. I bypassed the one in the camaro, and cut off the ports on the one in the truck. Hot air really isnt needed in...

    Air intake question.

lol back when my truck was TBI an inspector actually made me walk across the street to a parts store and put the tube on before he would give me a sticker. It hadnt had a tube for 20 years.

Vortec 5.7 fuel trims positive, running rich, fuel pressure issue?

Dont cut the bed. Do like I did and unzip all 6-8 bolts underneath, and slide the bed back. Itll take you and a friend to lift it up a few inches, then back about a foot or so, and let it sit on the frame. There will be enough room for you to get in behind the cab and replace it. Replace the...

Vortec 5.7 fuel trims positive, running rich, fuel pressure issue?

If OP is for sure there are no vacuum leaks, he could test each injector by doing an injector balance test, but I dont know if that's possible with CPI (maybe it is, but that the entire upper plenum has to be taken off - I haven't had a vortec in front of me in like 14 years). If its possible to...
