I bought heat shield wrap made to fit around the starter. Put that on. No change to what is happening. I read this on another post:
SO this has me thinking I've got sad cable issues, meaning the negative on the battery. I'm going to check my cables after work today to see if that's the...
I hooked up the scan tool and the coolant temp sensor seems to be working fine. I drove multiple times with it hooked up and the coolant temp sensor always gave an accurate read when cold and as the engine warmed up. No issues there.
I replaced the fuel filter. Afterwards I went to start the...
1. I will test the FP. The fuel filter is old, not even sure how old to be honest. It's running the original spider injector.
2. Usual tune-up items were all replaced this past summer. EGR solenoid and PCV valve are new. Have not checked ignition timing.
3. I'll connect a scan tool and...
96 GMC with 5.7 Vortec (250k). When the engine is cold it starts normally, idles and drives fine. When it's warm, the engine turns over fine. I hold the key to crank the engine a couple seconds and when I let go of the key the engine kinda slowly sputters to life. Gains rpm until it is at...
Final Answer...The used throttle body was the fix. The IACV that I put on the truck was defective. I could grab the plug end of the IACV and spin the entire unit inside it's housing, so I think it by itself was a vacuum leak. When I purchased the used TB it came with a TPS and IACV still...
Turns out the problem was the Idle Air Control tables needed to be cleared. I had replaced the IAC valve and the truck was trying to run on values that it learned from the original IAC valve. I didn't know that I needed to clear anything after replacing the IACV. The mechanic I took it to...
I've made no progress on this. Same issues as when I started this thread. I'm going to send it to a mechanic I trust and I'll report back when it's resolved.
With the new TB the truck drives really well if I don't use AC. When I cut the AC on is when it wants to increase speed on it's own and tries to drive through the brakes when I come to a stop. I've gotten so used to it now that when I know I'm going to park or something like that I just start...
Bought a used TB from a used parts seller online. The truck it came off of had 130k miles on it. That's about half of what mine is at right now so that's pretty much new in my book. It had a IACV and TPS on it out of the box. I took them off and cleaned the whole thing, all the nooks and...
I've looked at the new and used TBs for sale online. The used ones can be returned but the new one can't. My plan, at the moment, is to buy a used one and see if it changes how the truck runs at all. If it does, great. If the used TB doesn't change anything I can return it. It will...
It happened again today pulling in the driveway. I was not able to rotate the throttle blade closed at all. It wasn't stuck open is what I'm trying to say. I think if it's related to the TB then it's got to be where the TPS is. I'm going to remove the TPS and check that out one more time...
I did not, but I did rev the engine multiple times with the accelerator thinking if I opened the throttle blades maybe they would "reseat" and close completely. The engine always went back to the 1040 idle and TP% like I said before. It never resolved.
Should I try a new TPS or am I back to...
