dude, you can get a new compressor from rockauto for under 200 bucks, comes with orfice dryer compressor and the gaskets, mine had oil in it already and it took 2lbs of freon 134a.

been thinking about changing the color of my K1500 as well, it is maroon and i do not like it, but have to find a new dash first (mine was made at a potato chip factory)
mine would eventually start, (unless it was really wet out) i thought it was a fuel pressure issue as well. mine also had spark, just wasn't good spark. and when it did start it ran like crap.
found it on amazon, took a bit of searching but i found one, look closely at the pictures and you will be able to tell, i think it was this one

I had the same problem with my 98 z71, wound up the cap and rotor, had purchased one with aluminum post, switched to one with brass post and all has been good since.
