Thanks for the help. The TPS seems to be responding correctly at the moment, maybe an intermittent issue? I think I'm going to replace the TPS and VSS for good measure.

I plugged in a harbor fright code reader today and it gave me two codes that seem relevant. P0122: Throttle Position Sensor 1 Circuit Low Voltage P1122: Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage

I have a 1998 GMC 2500 pickup with 110k miles. The transmission worked fine until about a month ago. 80% of the time it shifts perfectly. But every once and a while it won't shift to 4th, the other gears shift hard, and the engine light comes on. Usually, if I shut it down for a few minutes and...
