Pulled it out of the remover about 4pm yesterday, washed it out with some soap and water and air dried it for about an hour, It cleaned up well but I do plan on sandblasting the inside

1 gallon of evapo-rust isn’t enough, but it’s enough to cover the thermostat housing, gonna get some more tomorrow to cover some threads higher up on the intake

Disassembled the intake last night to give to my dad who has a hot bath at work. Got it back about an hour ago, plan on picking up Evapo-Rust Friday after work and having sit over the weekend where I can check on it every few hours

Wow! That makes me want to try and save this even more, this one is a 3 bolt throttle body intake. IIRC the seller told me the Mercruiser intakes were 4 bolt and the Volvo Pentas were 3 bolt.

Thank you for the info! I want to at least try to save it, it’s too rare of a part to just throw away without at least trying to save it. I’ll try hitting it with a wire brush/wheel when I get home from work and go from there.

Here is a comparison vs the stock L31 intake, I do have a sandblast cabinet so I might try to sandblast the inside but I’m afraid of knocking off more of the thermostat lip

It is cast iron, I’ll probably go into work tomorrow and pick up a gallon of acid bath to soak it in over the weekend

I just recently picked up a marine intake and just got around to messing with it when I started to notice the thermostat housing is badly rusted, I’m hoping it’s salvageable but it looks like it’s too far gone to to anything, opinions?
