I guess that makes me both relieved and worried at the same time. If the AGM was unlikely to have killed the alternator then I guess the Q/C of that type of alternator is not very good for it to only last 100 miles. It was a Powermaster, which I now believe (after doing some more reading) isn't...
I'm working on improving my 97 K2500's electrical capacity. I used this truck for plowing for the first time last year so I bought an Optima Deep-Cycle battery and ran 0awg wire for everything. The battery did well but it had a hard time keeping up with the constant hard draw from the plow. When...
Update: It took a bit of time but I mostly picked it clean. Gave the rest of the shell to a friend of mine to scrap since he came and picked it up for me. Also gave him a bonus bed full of scrap metal I found in the yard that was mostly a gift from the previous homeowner.
Thanks again for the...
Thank you for the advice. It makes sense since I could get it to start sometimes by flooring the pedal to clear the flood. It would usually start ok cold since there wasn't fuel in the intake recently. Warm starts involved lots of cranking if it even started at all.
I replaced the fuel pump...
Read a bunch of threads on the topic but still confused. 1997 K2500 Vortex 5.7L.
Symptoms: hard starts - have to crank for many seconds to minutes if it even starts at all, engine stalls and misfires and dies if running, bogs down under throttle. It is a relatively new issue.
The fuel pump...
I tried pulling this to swap it out a few years ago and broke the crap out of it. The plastic was so brittle. No fun plowing snow in a truck without working heat. Thanks for the suggestion.
Didn't think of that - thanks for the suggestion. I think the LCAs on this one are stamped, though, and the ones in my current truck are forged. I believe the forged ones are supposed to be better.
This question doesn't really fit nicely under any category but I want to know what's worth keeping from a truck I plan on scrapping? The truck I am getting rid of is a 1995 k2500 HD since the frame rusted through and broke. My current truck is a 1997 k2500HD. At a minimum I plan on pulling the...
Just to finish off this thread in case anyone finds it later... I found the issue and it was because of a bad ground. But the ground was bad where it connected near the glove box before it goes through the firewall and attaches to the block. In another thread I explained that my truck had some...
Thanks for the ideas but I still don't know what is happening. I agree it seems like a ground issue but I don't know how it could be. I just did the big 3 and ran 0 awg grounds to the body and made a new firewall ground. I ran a wire from the battery ground for testing directly to the cluster...
Tonight I'm going to replace the power cable for the distribution box and see if it makes a difference. I was also considering reseating the harness connector through the firewall. Not sure what else to try at this point but I might just have to dig the dash apart again...
I haven't tried it with the engine running since it is unable to be moved from the garage at the moment. But I did take some pictures of it.
This is with the ignition and lights off
This is with just the lights on

Hey, been chasing an electrical issue for a few days now but can't seem to solve it. The problem is that my cluster readings are all way off and when you cycle the key / light switch they get even more wrong. When I say way off I mean that the gauges are usually buried one direction or the...
I should also add that when we first moved in a wild weasel got into the garage. I was annoyed at first but then found massacred pieces of mice all over the garage. That weasel was a saint. Too bad it moved on before all the work was done... I need to invest in all of these traps that have come...
