    Tuning Exhaust by heat

Hi, Tuning by heat can work and help when you are dealing with the same engine and the same components over time. This does not necessarily translate to different engines or components. For example just a different brand of paint may change color at a different temperature. I can tell you...

Looking for a Whipple for 5.7 Vortec

Back in the day I ran a 162 cu in High Output (144 was the standard size like the Weiand) B&M supercharger on a built 355 Chevy in my 74 K20. I ran it with all different combos but all with steel heads as aluminum heads were not really out yet on the aftermarket. Honestly just bolting a...

    Higher stall converter

    I like 4:88's with 35's and 5:13's with 37's...

    Stall converter

Sounds like you need to check/tune how your transmission is shifting both shift points and firmness etc. A looser converter is not going to help with this matter.

    What gear Ratio is best?

You will want 4.88's for the 35's and 5.13's for the 37's. I had 4.56's and they were great with 33's and not so great with 35's

    Towing capability

With 35" tires I'd recommend at least 4.88's but possibly 5.13's if offered. I had 35's with 4.56 and it tows much better with 33's. This is with the 4L80e towing in overdrive. I would not recommend towing in overdrive with the 4L60e in 1/2 tons.

    Header wrap

As much as I like the benefits of header wrap over time I have had several cars blow out the headers and when you take the wrap off the metal is like crystalized from the wrap holding in too much heat and the metal is flaky and brittle. I don't think you would have a problem if you have...

Best collector gaskets that will last!!!

The all metal aluminum or copper ones can work well but are expensive. The Mr. Gasket or Fel Pro ones reinforced with thin metal sandwiched between the paper can work well if your collectors are flat and your bolts don't get loose for less money.

Add another Magnaflow, or extend tail pipes over axle?

Full length tailpipes will mute the exhaust with their length and also eliminate the sound from getting to your sheetmetal which then reverberates the sound thru out the car. Based on the systems I've done over the years 3" pipes out the back are about the same as 2.5" mufflers without...

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

The part numbers for my EBC yellow disc pads on my Tahoe were different than the pads for my K2500 Suburban so I don't believe the pads would interchange...

    95 Chevy Suburban K2500 7.4L 4x4

I have towed with both TBI and Vortec 454 extensivly. If you have ever towed with an older carburated big block truck either EFI truck will make you think you've died and gone to heaven. So yeah the TBI will work for you. Towed a 32 foot fifth wheel toyhauler thru many states with one. I...

    Supercharged Towing

I've done a lot of towing in my younger years with a 355 carburated roots blown small block Chevy. Truck had the mid size 162 ci polished B&M blower with the wide optional pulley/belt setup and their smallest pulley. Truck pulled well but was not reliable after I swapped in a 700R4 no matter...

    TH400 crossmember

Not familiar with the 454 SS in particular but I've done plenty of GM tranny swaps and can't imagaine the crossmember wont work but pretty sure you may have to drill some holes. Sometimes the holes you need are already in the frame it just depends on what you are swapping in and if the factory...

Brakes seem sluggish to apply when panic braking???

Ok I'll check the rear brakes. I recall having a hissing sound for a little while a short time after I installed the master cylinder. I think it only made the sound if you pushed the pedal down real quick like when you panic brake but it no longer makes that sound anymore. Maybe that was a...

    Flat towing

I've towed a 1/2 ton extra cab shortbed on my 16' trailer. Just make sure you can get the tongue weight right so you don't get any sway.
