    My L29 Laundry List

I would say you need to somehow beg/borrow/steal a reliable fuel pressure gauge and verify the pressure is that low. Or, based on your symptoms, you can go ahead and assume it's that low and replace the pump. You said it was recently replaced, but do you know what brand pump was used? All the...

New member / owner looking for advise

You and I have the same use-case for these classic trucks - the ability to drive anywhere, anytime as worry free as possible. Got 203k on mine now and would trust it anywhere (I do realize that at some point it's probably going to be the 4L60 that'll get me, though - if I don't get to it first!)...

    best 350 vortec heads

I tend to agree. The 906's have hardened exhaust valve seats and come factory on the four bolt main L31's. I prefer 'em myself. I suppose if flow matters enough to be worried about the hardened seats affecting flow, you would be porting either version of head anyway, then the whole issue of 062...

Dead on the side of the road!

How's the distributor and clamp? When you say cranks then 'hangs', sounds like possibly timing is off...is it possible something (distributor) moved? Guess you could yank the coil wire and try turning it over to see if it's smoother to help rule out timing.

    1997 K1500 Wont Start

Just for kicks, you might want to bang on the fuel tank a few times with a piece of wood, etc. (not to the point of denting it or anything, of course) and see if the pump will start up. Usually works best if someone's banging and another person is turning the key on, though. It's a real...

    98 with running issue

Replace the relay and/or check the contacts in its socket. The relays do fail, so it wouldn't be crazy for that to be the issue...when it drops power for a second and truck's running, the pressure will fall off pretty quick as you described. Of course, if it's got the original pump or a...

Need help with overheating 454 Firetruck

Just to be sure, how are they noticing the overheating? If it's just with the dash gauge, it could be the gauge sender or gauge. An infrared thermometer might be handy and is probably something a fire department has around. Now if we're talking it's 'puking coolant' hot, obviously I'm barking in...

    Steering slack

+2 on the watch-and-see method As said earlier, could be a loose box, even if it's been replaced. My **** was so loose when I got the truck (sorry, that sounds like some kinda Pepto Bismol ad!), I decided to do some research and spend the dough on a RedHead box - couldn't be happier. A quick...

    compression on 350 tbi

Weren't 305 heads like 58cc? Well, that was what they were back in the day, anyhow. I might be showing my age, though!

    1996 vortec 5.7l gas mileage

With my 2000 Escalade (Tahoe in a tuxedo), 3.73's, new GM crate L31 and everything new (sensors, injectors, cats, distributor, hell-even the starter), I get about 12.8mpg combined (mostly city), best was 15.5 all highway, all city fully loaded around 11.5. Heavy *******, who cares, it rides...

    Best steering box?

Make that x3 on the RedHead and change the sloppy rag joint or whole steering shaft while you've got it apart.

    Stalling Under Throttle

That's true, no doubt. Hey, I really would recommend against the 'Special of the day' econo pumps...I've seen a lot of them die a year or so out, or just plain suck (no pun intended) out of the box as far as pressure goes. The Delphi is the only way to go...yep, it's a hell of a lot more...

    Stalling Under Throttle

Yep, that definitely sounds fuel related. Combined with the lazy start (another sign of pump going into retirement in my experience), sounds like the pump. Might wanna change the fuel filter for ***** and giggles...it needs to go with a pump change, anyways. Anyhow, 40psi and down you should...
