How hard is it to make these work in a truck with just a regular mirror. Also would one from like an 03-04 nbs work?

I know that this thread is old but I'd like to know the same thing. I thought a thread bump was no worse than starting my own.
I was out at my local junk yard today and I found one of the comp temp mirrors. I was looking for some tips for pulling it and installing it. How much of the wiring harness will I need? What about the sensor and stuff? where is that all located?

The wiring is simple, I just used about 6" of . Just needs a ignition power and ground, then 2 wires to the temp sesnor in front of the truck. For the power wires I just added to my little harness for my pod gauges and ran them up the piller and across inside of headliner. I didnt bother hooking up the autodim and my mirror works fine.
I think I did get mine from a NBS but it was a 99-00. Also the windshield mount is a little different. My old one was more square style whereas the temp/compass mirror was rounded somewhat.

if you get one from another truck say at a junkyard grab the harness it runs down the left pillar and plugs into the powerblock near the parking brake pedal on firewall

Ok so while at the junk yard today I did this. Then I went looking for the temp sensor and I couldn't find it... I discovered that the truck that I was pulling it from only had the auto dim and compass. No temp :( I had pulled everything besides the temp sensor too. I didn't have time to go pull the right one from the right truck so that will have to be another day.

The trucks that I looked at that had the temp and compass seemed to have a different wiring harness though. I think they were tahoes and suburbans though too. Is the wiring harness different? I would have thought that it just had more pins or something but it seemed to plug in a completely different spot... Was it different because it was a suburban?

97 to 99 tahoe, suburban, trucks

GM / wire harness color / function
PIN 1 / PINK / POWER +12 volts
PIN 2 / BK / CHASSIS, GND
PIN 3 / LT GRN / BACKUP LIGHTS
PIN 4 /GY / TO AUTO DIM OUTSIDE MIRROR <---- dont need it!!! cut it..
PIN 5 / PINK / TO AUTO DIM OUTSIDE MIRROR <---- dont need it!!! cut it..
PIN 6 / DR GRN/WT / TEMP PROBE
PIN 7 / BK/WT / TEMP PROBE

Note: Pin 3 is to be connected to the backup lights to turn off the auto dim feature in reverse.

If you intend not to use this feature connect the LT GRN wire to chassis ground. If this pin is floating the auto dim will not work properly.

i just put one in my truck this weekend and love it.. whatever truck you get the mirror out of get the temp censor for it also.. just run the 2 wires from the mirror to the censor then hook up power and ground... just make sure you hook up the LT green wire to the ground so the mirror dont start acting funny...
