I've got a Vortec 454 and I'd like to swap in a NV4500 at some point. I've been seeing some LS based NV4500's on CL lately. Are the bellhousings or input shafts any different?

Bell housings should be similar enough to work, but you may need to look further into the input shaft.

Bell housings are the same. They've been the same for all V8 Chevs for like a half a century. Input shafts are possibly the same, as the NV4500 would've been behind the 454 from the factory, would it not?

On my 96 c1500 can I use a split case 4l60e in place of my solid case 4l60e? If so then what do I do about the exposed lower section where the inspection plate would go? It's got the Vortec 5.0. Thanks.

Most of the info I've found says you can, but it didn't work out so well for my '97 C1500 because I failed to add the ground wire to the harness, which is the main thing you'll need to do to make it work, you don't have to do anything about the inspection plate, and the only other thing you need to do is bend the cooler lines a little as they now go straight in instead of following the angle of the bell housing.

Sorry for thread jacking maybe a mod can move these posts.
