So hows is it running otherwise? I was looking at the stock tune recently, the factory power enrichment delay is set at 60 seconds. So when you mash the throttle, it doesn't add extra fuel for a whole minute. My point is, with settings like that these things feel slow as hell. Then there is the fact that the factory timing is quite conservative.

It runs well now, except for hesitation from a stop.
Though once I connect the fpr vacuum line (another thing i forgot to do) I hope it will solve that problem.

I've been driving super conservatively so i couldn't say about the power, I still have less than 10 miles on it since the rebuild though.
That's really strange about the 60 second time delay though, definitely a case for tuning even without any mods.

Is it really that easy to learn how to tune?
I know nothing about tuning, but i'm pretty good at searching for new info and picking up new things.

BTW ebay has a flash sale today, i think i'll pull the trigger on a 411 pcm w/vin update from the seller.

Next time you go through smog please let me know how it does with the 411, I'm so worried about my 98 454.

I believe having the vin correct is the only real hurdle for you smog guys.

I don't find it to be that hard. These 411s tube just like the gen 3 engines, so there is a ton of info out there. You can use the stfts to tune most of the VE and maf tables. You need a wideband to fine tune the wot stuff. Especially with a cam swap that would be useful. If you get the hp tuners pro you can read a wideband right into the unit, but there is a way to read that through the egr circuit if you don't want to buy the pro version.

Transmission tuning isn't too hard, mostly preference stuff there.

When learning it takes just playing with, and a lot of driving.

The truck is still running well, sorry i haven't gotten around to the video yet.
Thanks to everyone here for help during the rebuild. I've learned a tremendous amount since the project started.
For anyone considering this it isn't that hard, though if you need to buy more tools like i did, you definitely will not save money over a reman engine off of ebay, though if you want upgraded parts like a cam and lifters, rebuild is the way to go.

I recommend using Factory service manuals, idk if I could have done this rebuild without them. They had just about every procedure and torque value covered.

I ran into an issue with the poly locks (@Christian Steffen from the other thread) i figured I'd share.
Here are the parts I ordered for the valvetrain:
Crower Sure Lock Rocker Arm Nuts 86050S-16
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cro-86050s-16

COMP Cams Magnum Steel Roller Tip Rocker Arms 1411-16
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-1411-16

COMP Cams Adjustable Rocker Arm Conversion Kits 4514-KIT
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-4514-kit

With this combination of parts, for me anyway, these specific poly locks were too short; the valvetrain couldn't adjust to the correct setting until the nut was all the way down, meaning there was no room to insert the locking part (the little allen head bolt) into the poly lock.
Adding a spacer provided with the adjustable kit (4514) did not work, the spacer was too long and covered almost all the threads on the studs.

There are longer poly locks available, which may have worked, but I didn't want to spend any more money on it since i had two full sets of the standard nuts that came with two of the kits above. I didn't want to risk longer poly locks not clearing the valve covers.

I believe the issue here was the rocker arms, since poly locks are mostly used with full rollers, instead of the partial ones i have. Full rollers sit higher on the rocker stud than the partials.

Here's a pic of the poly lock installed, if you look at the middle you can see the rocker stud just below flush with the lock, with no room to thread in the allen bolt in the middle.

Man that is unfortunate. So you're running the stock lock nuts now?

Are you lifters the stock dimensions? I'm pretty sure i ran the same locknuts and they worked fine. And if you read the reviews on summit someone with a gen VI 454 and the comp pro magnums said they fit.
