i have a 1994 chevy k1500 with a 350/ 4l60e. motor has about 75k miles and new heads with around 8k miles. my truck has low oil pressure and i can't quiet seem to figure it out. i'm pretty mechanicly inclined and know the truck pretty well inside out, i changed the oil and filter less than a week ago and put a mechanical gauge on it it ran good high 40 psi at idle for a few days then the past two days it'll run around 40 cold then after it warms up from driving it it'll almost drop down to 0 in gear at idle. i'm not sure what the problem could be i even went from using 5-40w oil to 10-40. any help?

Do a leak down test to rule out rings. You may want to consider trying another oil filter if the leakdown test is good. If none of that does it you probably need to drop the oil pan and inspect the bearings and replace the oil pump.

And i usually run 10-30

i noticed when i switched from fram oil filter to ax delco i had a little more pressure even after it all bottoms out. ill try a leak test and see there. i also thought maybe a clogged galley could be the problem of both no oil pressure and using oil put i pulled the valve covers off and i'm getting great oil flow to the top of the heads and its draining smoothly

Tanner,
Your low oil pressure could be too much clearance on the mains and rod bearings. Mains mostly. Also if the engine is dirty inside(sludge, carbon deposits) that will also lower oil pressure especially at the oil screen. If you drop the pan, usually the most clearance will be at #1 main cap, due to the belt driven accessories. You can also install .001 or .002" bearings in the main saddles to tighten it up. Usually a mixture of both tightens up the clearance. I presume the oil pressure at highway speed is about 35-45 psi. You can also install 15w/40 Rotella in the engine at oil change. That would also increase your ZDDP count with that oil. Your idle hot oil pressure should increase also.
That's just my .02.

i used some sea foam for two days before i changed the oil. hoping that maybe me addin it to the oil would clean everything out including deposits. also i checked the oil today and it was almost dry. i filled it to the top of the grid on the dipstick about two weeks ago and it's already out! what could be causing me to lose this much? it has a new pcv and i don't notice any leaks

Does it smoke when you first start it? Or when taking off from a long idle? If so then you need new valve seals. Cheap and easy to do if you take your time.

i put some oil in it yesterday i put three quarts in and now it is right above the grid in the dipstick. there is no way three quarts could fill it all the way up from empty. and i adjusted the timing a little bit on it today and unhooked the battery and then hooked it back up and its smoking bad now upon acceleration. no smoke at idle but any amount of gas on the pedal and it smokes like a train. what could cause this

actually now that i look the oil is reading a little above the grid like a little over filled could that be the cause of the smoke? it's never smoked that bad before and i just put that oil in yesterday evening and it's full past the grid. i don't believe it's a bad head gasket because there are no leaks and no coolant in the oil and the heads only have a few thousand miles on them so i don't think it could be seals or anything i'm stumped
