This is what the rear section of my transfer case looks like. 1998 model year. Truck had a vibration in the driveline for about 2 weeks. I couldnt find it for the life of me!!! Driving on the highway and I look in my mirror and Im leaving a smoke screen behind me.

Pull over and look under the truck and it pouring transmission fluid everywhere. Towed it home and started investigating. I pulled this off the back of the case. 3 of the 4 bolt flanges were broke right off. Im not sure how this happened or if this was the cause of the vibration or if the vibration caused this.

I picked up a used transfer case from a junkyard today so I do have a replacement. Does anyone have an advice for me on what I should do with the replacement transfer case? Im thinking I should do the output seal on the trans too.

Maybe front u-joint was bad, causing the vibration, and this is the end result?

u-joints on the driveshaft seem fine. That was the first thing I checked.

I went back to the driveshaft and checked the joints now that it was out of the truck and the u joint on the yoke was frozen in place!!! I did the typical checks while it was in the truck and everything checked out. So, its safe to say that the vibration I was getting for 3 weeks was from a failing u joint which resulted in excessive vibration in the transfer case.
