1997 K1500 ecsb, 5.0L 4L60E F44, 3.73, 245/75/16 tires.

A few years ago towed a bumper pull trailer + load at 8800 pounds towed. Absolutely no problems with 'heat loading'. Trans temperature hovered around the 190~200F mark, towing in 3rd, right at the torque peak of the 5.0L.

Factory oil to water cooler in the rad, no additional cooler.

I wouldn't recommend this on a daily basis, but it will do that.

Go with the big block. I've had the small block tbi and vortec and 6.5 diesel, I now have a 454 vortec and it puts all the above mentioned to shame. I also have a 5 speed, so much better for towing

@Jorge6.5 wasnt your 6.5L an auto though? :) 5 speed puts anything to shame, I would much rather drive a 350 5spd than a 454 auto.

Much rather drive 6.5L 5spd than any of them. ;)

Well, I finally bought my truck after getting back from deployment a few weeks ago.

I posted it on here- a 2000 GMC Sierra 3500 CC 4WD DRW with the Vortec 454. It's a diamond-in-the-rough, I hope.

I'll be on here about it as there are a few issues to work through. See you guys.
