Probably overloaded the "C" rated tires, and installing my new P3 trailer brake controller moved up on my priority list a little so as to get working trailer brakes. Would typically tow stuff like this with my Dodge, but was pleasantly surprised how well the old Suburban did all things considered. Bear in mind I keep around 1000 lbs of tools in the back of this Suburban all the time, trailer weighs around 3500 lbs, and tractor with loader is probably around 3000 lbs. Not sure but I think it is only rated to tow 5000 lbs?

Most GMT400 Suburbans are rated at about 6k The various 2wd vs 4wd, 1500 vs 2500 and gas vs diesel could get up to 8k. Only 454 4:10 got the 10k rating in all the research I did before I got mine.

first thing I've pulled with it and possibly the first thing it's ever pulled in its life. It had a receiver but none of the wiring and some older guy owned it before me and he said he had never pulled anything

Pulling that without trailer brakes is a recipe for disaster. If you get on a wet road you will never stop it.

I know, I've been pushed around by trailers before, and drove accordingly. Roads were wet. Only about 15 miles and went no more than 40 mph. The tires on the Suburban were more concerning to me than the lack of trailer brakes.

This boat is around 2000 lbs. including trailer and pushed me through a red light in the rain when towing with my 92 S-10. I was lucky no one was coming.

The real issue is when the trailer has no brakes, when you apply truck brakes, the weight transfer pushes the rear of the vehicle up enough the rear tires have no traction. So you are limited to the front brakes to stop your whole load.

I have seen a 3500 DRW diesel with trailer, combined weight of 9000 lbs. 35-40 miles per hour, panic stop 80 feet, plowing a small car about half way through.

yea....because NOTHING can happen at 40 mph.

people like you shouldn't be allowed to drive. you are not equipped with the brains or conscience for the task.....let alone the equipment.

Lets take this for what it is, a picture thread, of what you have towed recently with your vehicle instead of jumping to conclusions.

I've been around the block a few times, towing many different sized loads. You don't know that I have a CDL. You don't know that I had a chase vehicle with me. You don't know what roads I drove or whether I was in congested areas. You don't know that 40 mph was the MAXIMUM that I ever hit, and was in fact going mostly much slower than even that, and you don't know what kind of line of sight I had on the roads that I traveled.

The fact is, you don't know my situation or why I had to do what I did the way I did. Risks were mitigated as much as possible in many different ways.

This is the last time that I will post a picture of what I do in here, because apparently it isn't just a towing thread, there are too many keyboard crusaders on here who don't know even a fraction of the story. Carry on folks.
