I wonder how an early grill would look with billet inserts.

The details will be the things that stand out the most to you so make you're ok with them and don't settle. I constantly have to tell my self, when I do swaps ppb things or buy new products, am I settling or is this what I want.
Long as you say it's what I want and you're not saying this Will do donkey, you're good.

I think you could go either way TBH, both would look quite nice.
I think the '93 grille gives it more of that "stock, but not stock" look. My vote would be for the newer grille wouthout the inserts
The only thing i'd do, space out the lower parking lamps so they're flush with the headlights. One of the things i don't like about the 88-93 grilles.
Oh Josh.... Josh Josh Josh....
Your parking lights are missing parts.
88-89 headlights sat farther back in the grille, and so did the parking lights. When they added the composite lights they sit farther out in the grille, so GM installed a set of spacers that replace the white nuts inserts and space the lights out. They are PN 15622475.

When they re-designed the grilles in 94, since the composite headlights were the main headlight used they did away with the spacers and set the lights forward.
