Also a member of popup portal and a member over there asked this

"How heavy of a trailer can my 1991 Chevy Silverado 1500 V6 5 speed manual transmission tow? The door sticker says GVWR 5900 lbs. The manual says nothing on how much weight it can tow. The internet says it can tow 4000 lbs but I want to be sure."

I also told them about gmt400 and suggested that they join
Thanks in advance for your help

Trying to find the tow ratings on these is kind of maddening, 4000 is what I found also on that particular truck.

I would hook up whatever your trying to tow and go for a short drive. If your comfortable with its ability to stop and go then i would say its fine. Just understand that the heavier it is the slower it will be and harder it will be to stop. Your gvwr is what your truck should weigh after tounge weight, gear, fluids, and people.

Like was already said, if it'll pull it, hook it up. My c1500 5.7l will pull 6k all day. Never tried more, just use bigger truck if I get crazy.

Ive pulled over 10k with mine, but it was a short drive with trailer brakes. Dump trailer of scrap.

I used to have a 98 v6 5 speed, and it did not like to tow. It would do it, but it had a hard time just dragging a 18' Center console boat around especially on steep inclines. I say hard time but I am also not one to run my trucks hard. I would rather let it the truck slow down a little verses down shifting and wrapping out the engine just to try and keep up with traffic. I'm not in that much of a hurry, and I don't want risk causing undue stress.

Gvwr is gross vehicle weight rating. Its the maximun your truck can weigh.
