Hey guys I want to add military style shackles to my truck.
and I was wondering if you guys think if a 1.5 square tube 1/4 inch thick is good enough for my bars?
will be bolted to the frame and then go through the bumper and have a shackle on the end

Should be fine. If you have any trouble it will probably be with breaking the bolts that bolt it to the frame. I would use at least 2 5/8 grade 8 bolts per shackle. Iirc thats what size the tow hook bolts are

Stole these from another forum... You're basically duplicating the mount system that is on a CUCV. GM reinforced the hell out of the front of the frame for them. Note the plate on the inside as well, extends back through core support mount.

Yeah that looks to be a older cucv. The cucv2 has a solid 1.5 by 2.5 plate. But if the older ones had the 1/4 inch wall tube it should work for me as well.
and yes you are right. I will be adding a renforcement plate on the back side.
