After inspecting the engine bores the pitting in 2 of the bores is beyond honing out, so I am going to have to have it bored oversize... so I got hold of a set of low mileage LS1 pistons and rods and will be having the block bored to 99mm from 97. Apparently the walls are thick enough to support it. It was cheaper to buy the LS1 pistons than a set of basic oversize ones.

I plan on dropping it off at the machine shop in the next few weeks, but until then I am getting the other parts cleaned up and rebuilt ready to refit.

So I started cleaning up the heads first

Fitted LS6 springs as I plan on putting a mild cam in the motor. I also gave them a good wash, cleaned all of the ports out and lapped the valves although there was very little wear on the seats.

Got one finished, I'll do the other one tomorrow.

Washed the intake manifold out with some old fuel to clean all the old oil and gunk out of it. Then got the billet cable throttle fitted up. I gave the injectors a soak in my ultrasonic cleaner and they now look like new again. I'll refit them with new seals soon.

I also got the crank removed from the block, main bearings and crank are perfect. Just need to get the block bored and honed then I can get it built back up again.

Nice work. If you're getting it bored, you can have it bored to a 5.7 and use ls1 pistons. They have the same stroke, some call it a ironblock ls1. When I get into my 5.3 that's my plan. Keep us updated, gl.

That's what I'm going to do. Already have a set of LS1 pistons and rods to fit. Just need to get the machining done. :)

Same rod length and compression height between the engines? Thanks!
