New Massachusetts hitch law

Just caught wind of this the other day, Mass has enacted a new law against leaving any hitch in the receiver of your truck/car while not towing. Have not heard the exact mount the fine is but been hearing the cops up there on the highways have been pulling over anyone with a hitch in that they see. To me it seems like it's just easy revenue and I bet CONnecticut will be soon to follow cuz they love that kind of crap.

Prolly so if you back into a car you don't puncture it really bad. Good to know. This is prolly a bigger issue in Boston.

I agree with you I leave mine on due to by buddy had his on here in Houston bumper to bumper traffic and some small car rearended him and nothing happen to his truck so since then mine has stayed on my truck.

Yup. My '92 RCSB's hitch punctured the engine block of a Ford Taurus when I was in high school. I was sitting at a red light and she hit me doing 35-40. Pushed me into the truck in front of me, barely though. I saw her coming so I was braced and on the brakes. Literally did nothing to my truck. The truck in front of me got a tiny dent in its bumper from by brush guard.

If I am going anywhere with a lot of traffic I'll throw in my hitch without a ball.

Too many people put driving number 3 or 4 on their to do list and I'll be damned if I am gonna let a yuppie crunch the back of my suburban.

They say it's unsafe because it sticks out past the vehicles built in crumple zone or something like that. Sounds like they just want money.

Falls into the same category as CT's mission to burn all truckers on the stake with any fines they can hand out. $40 ticket for a flickering bulb on top of the trailer and if they can't find any issues they get creative like a $50 unsecured hazard ticket for having a lunch box behind the seat of the rig that is not bolted down or a "distracted driving" ticket for having the CB on in the cab. All about the dollar in the end.
