I'm Awesome
That's very interesting news!
Maybe it was for the simplicity of something else in the assembly line? Who knows?

late as well but it is a good write up
i do have one question when you added the wire did you connect it to both ends of the factory antenna or just one
Got a 96, @88GMCtruck, when you say the range fell on its face do you mean it had no range at all?
My key fob is a little temperamental, some days I can unlock from at least 25 feet away, some days I have to be right next to the door and still have to mash buttons to unlock. Not sure if it's the fob or module.

I soldered one end but would be interested to know if 2 would be even more effective.
Just 1 end was soldered to the board. The antenna in the box is only soldered on one end, as least with my truck.
Brody, it's probably you're remote. You can split it open and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip (Like a VHS player) and it should help. However, if your remote is breaking down like mine then the bottoms of the buttons are deteriorating and you'll just have to clean and clean until you get a new one.
95-96 are the ones that have the squared fobs
