I am new here Hi everyone. First the truck start it miss and get worse over a short time. Changed cap rotor plugs wire. Then one morning it started to really miss and the service light would flash as i drove it still missing then at idle stop flashing. Local shop scaned it said miss fire on #1 an need poppet. I bought the whole spider upgrade unit borg warner 63886 and replaced it. I is still doin gthe same thing missing and lacking power flashing. I pulled the number 1 plug looks good no soot oil little gas smell. Witht the truck running you get a rich exhaust smell. It has no cats on it. Auto 4x4 1997. I am at my wits end they were going to charge me 600 to replace A poppet i bought the spider complete for 304. But it still misses flashes and lacks power not a real big change the performace after the spider change to the new style? I am at a loss:hmm:

what are some signs of a cracked head or valve issues?

I got a question for all of you out there... what are some signs of a head with a crack in it or maybe burnt valve, bent valve, too tight, too loose....

I got a question for all of you out there... what are some signs of a head with a crack in it or maybe burnt valve, bent valve, too tight, too loose. I ask because I see alot of ppl talk about tbi heads cracking and such, and can be missed by the eye and such. I don't have collant lose or oil in the rad or anything. It kinda scares me though wondering lol.

I get a miss or pop out the ps exhaust, I got duals so I know it's that side ONLY, ds is fine. It's done it since the motor has been put back in, runs and drive fine, just has a cold start miss and pop and warm too I think still does it. I'm thinking of hopeing maybe wires? I got new dist. completely new one, new coil, they are accel wires and new plugs, new motor, well rebuilt and the valves got cleaned up with a wire brush on a drill and some valve grind compound put on them and spun in the drill, my old man did it, he's done it that way fr years. Is there a for sure way to know if it's valve? Like leakdown or compression test? I don't have a cylinder leak down tester but I do have a compression gauge. I also plan to do a running valve adjustment on it. I've had it in the truck for about a year and half now, and only drove it for less then a year, probably not even 500 miles on it.

I'm really hoping it's not valve or head related because if so it's gotta come apart and it'll be parked for awhile and not on the road or put together forever cuz of my tight budget.

I'm gonna try the valve adjustment and yank some wires off another 305 or 350 motor and try them. I can yank em off my brother in laws monte carlo(my old one) since it's here at my place and I'm working on it for him. I guess afterwards maybe do a compression test.

The valves were spotless though, but I guess anything can happen. it's a stock replacement flat tappet cam too from northern. Brand new lifters as well as everything else in side minus rods, pistons and crank.

New 02 as well and has headers, shorties that do not leak anywhere, AIR pump and lines have been removed and cats were gone before I got it.

Every other motor I built and did heads the same way and reused them never had this happen, but this is my first computer controlled build the rest were all carbd motors and still run great.

Hey guys new here and i got some crappy wiring diagrams that don't show me where the fuse is in relation to the relay. Can anyone tell me if the fuse is before or after the relay? I got this thing on the cheap (damn near stole it) because it wasn't starting. I dumped fuel down it and she started right up. I thinking its the relay but when I disconnect it all I can get from the connector is the constant 12v from the red wire with the ignition key on or off

any other suggestions or am I right?

This came to me while i was wrenching the gas tank off a junkyard truck. Why can't i put a fuel pump right in the frame and run a line to the tbi and have it work? this setup would be much easier to work on opposed to the in-tank pump. i know this is the way it was with carbs but why can't it work on tbi? i figure sa long as there is a pump to bring fuel from the tank to the tbi then it should not matter were it is at. as far as pressure goes, you could put a adjustable pressure gauge between the fuel line and tbi and then you can make it get the right pressure. most of my knowledge is motor and this is a area that i don't know much about, i have always thought that this is the way it is and it can't be different. so if someone can shed some more light on this that would be great. But if there is no reason why this won't work, i plan to make a trap door in my bed and put in a fuel cell and go the old school way of fuel delivery.

Hey everyone,

Ever since I bought my truck (88 C1500) the brakes haven't been what they should be, and as of late the pedal would sink when I would be stopped. I figured either the bore of the master cylinder was pitted or the seals inside of it were warped/deteriorated so I bought a replacement master cylinder and installed it. I bench bled it and bled the brakes after installation, and took it for a test drive. I can push the brake pedal down now to probably 75% of its range before it starts braking, and it only has maybe 2 inches of travel from lightly braking to flooring the pedal. I just put in all new rotors, pads and calipers so the brakes are good, I panic stopped to test it and my sub box flew into my dash. So does anyone have any ideas why its so low now?

Thanks,

Josh
