ok, im lost. I have a 97 heavy half (see name) and I am confused as hell!!!!!

I dont have the same ground clearance as stock 1500 or 2500's around here. I am 1/2 a bumper taller than Z71's and half a bumper shorter than 2500's. To the best of my knowledge, the trucks I used as comparison are stock. I'm 99% sure I can clear 33's no problem bone stock. No trimming, no cranking, no nothing! Now I wont say its for sure as I dont have a set of 33 for my 16's, just the wifes 33x15's to mock up with. I'm, wanting to run 35's because any bigger gets too costly to replace rubber. Do i need to do a 6" lift like the 1500 guys or do some minor stuff like the 2500 guys? Dont get me wrong, more lift is always better, but I dont want to drop $1500 on a lift I dont need or worse, have too small a tire for my lift. I saw a very lifted truck driving around on smaller than my stock tires once and wanted to slap the guy driving it. I'm trying to avoid getting slapped here. LOL

Well I'm debating on lifting my truck... On one main issue, on the weekends I use it to pull the fourwheelers to the park.. Usually 14-18ft trailer with 2-4 fourheelers.. My question is, how do they do when your truck is lifted. As far as ride..wear out of parts ect... I have a 97 gmc ext. Cab z71. I was set on the the Dick Cepek 6.5" on 35/36sX12.50X20... But that's gonna set up pretty good... At this point I really just want my truck to have a nice stance on some 35s but I don't want a body nor do I want it to ride like crap...

Hey guys,
I'm in a bit of a unqiue situation here. I recently got my first vehicle that is mine to do with as I please ('98 k1500. 4x4, 5 speed 350, etc.). Thus far it has been doing a great job of getting me to class everyday, which is its main purpose aside from going on small off-roading trips on the weekends.

For one reason or another, I will have close to $2500 between now and the first of the year (that is after buying new tires/wheels already.) that I have set aside to put into the truck.

Up until now I have just figured I'd do some engine upgrades then put some cosmetic stuff on it and be done. But I have been reading up on some build threads, and I 'think' I would be able to afford to build up my suspension slightly.

Here are a few extra things;
1. The truck will primarily be a road driver. So no bogger tires, solid front axles, or anything like that, but I would still like for it to retain the ability to do well offroad when I needed. I don't normally go any place that a stock 4x4 with agressive tires couldn't go.
2. I am on a budget. Around how much are you guys paying for lifts? What are brands to look for/stay away from?
3. Is installing a lift possible to do at home with basic tools? I have access to a shop that charges next to nothing to do my work, but it is more out of my pocket regardless.
4. Am I going the right direction in your opinion? I am mechanically inclined (going for my master's in mechanical engineering.) but my resources and funds are limited. And I cannot have this truck apart for 6 months at a time. I don't want to get in over my head.

The setup I would be going for would be something like a 4"-6" suspsension lift with 33-36 tires with 4:10 gears in the back (unless more is needed.)

Any advise would be appreciated.

i have a 90 chevy 1500 2wd standard cab and long bed with a 4.3 and a 5 speed stick. it does not like to move in the snow so i want to make it 4x4 to help. i have already found a donor frame to use, it has everything i need to make this swap work. the frame is from a similar truck (same body style but not sure of the year was told it is a 88 or 89, once the guy gets back to me on the price i will see the title and know for sure) and has dual 25 or 34 gal fuel tanks and the entire driveline from the tranny back. i have done some research on this and so far it seems like a standard drop off the old and bolt on the new, but some areas are still fuzzy. the biggest thing is the motor mounts. since the donor frame had the 350 on it this falls under a 350 swap but in reverse. my problem is that i have yet to find anyone who can say anything for sure. i have heard that they are the same, they are different, they have to move and wether you can just unbolt and move them or you have to weld in new ones. please help me with whatever wisdom you have and some wise pics would be a great help.

this has been reposted from another area because i am a newbie, originally in offroad where you cant reply. thanks for any info and sorry for any problems this caused.

Hey all, I've been reading on here for a while and have a question. I'm lifting my 93 fullsize blazer ( lift and tires sitting in the garage) I'm going to run 4inch of lift and 295/75r16. I'm unsure of what rims to get due to backspacing. Pretty much everything is a 4.5inch backspace. I want 16x8's. I was hoping to get something that did not stick out as much as a 4.5backspacing due to laws where i live. http://www.gmt400.com/forum/showthre...lignment-issue!!! 2nd pic down is 4.5bs. When reading specs on rims they have offset and backspace. Now my problem is, that in my head they achieve the same thing. For example ( argument sake) a 4inch backspace would stick out just as far as a 5inch backpace but with negative offset. Is this correct?

Most of american racing stuff is 0 offset and 4.5bs. Now when it shows the offset in mm, is it actually millimeters meaning 1/10th of a centimeter?

Sorry for the long post, but i'm getting so close i can taste it.

Thanks Brock
