Hi, New to the forum.

My front diff will either not engage at all, or may after a few minutes. Its a floor shift and the light flickers on and off in 4-Lo or 4-Hi.
Then, when you want 2-Hi, the front diff will not disengage even though the light will be off. It will go back into 2-Hi after some time or if you shut the ignition off and wait it out.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Normally, it's the thermo linear actuator (TLA) on the front axle going south on the older trucks.

What is somewhat disconcerting is that you say it won't come out of 4x4. That could suggest you have a mechanical issue in the front differential.

I'd change out the TLA first, since it's inexpensive and easy and see what it does after that.

Wouldn't hurt to check the fluid level in the front diff either.....

My 96 was the same way even with a new actuator, if you put it in 2hi while moving it wont disengauge until you stop/back up a little bit
