The 350, was built with performance in mind, in the late 1960s. Then, it was detuned for MPGs. The 305 was GMs attempt to get better MPGs out of the small block. By the time GM made the Vortec engines, things had evolved to where GM took the 305, to a decent level of performance for what it is...
Here is what I have on my truck. The gold pulley is the OE, and the black pulley is the aftermarket, overdrive pulley. You can see the difference. The black pulley is smaller, and will turn the alternator faster.
Gas millage????? WTH is that. 97 Silverado, about 10 MPG, 79 Corvette about 8 MPG. Both have 373 gears. Truck has a 4L60E, Vette has the OE 4 speed manual. This is in town of course, and well I do kind of have a lead foot. Both have a 350. L-31 in the truck, and L82, 4 bolt main in the Vette.
After installing dual electric fans, and having a 680 watt amp, I looked at my options on alt. After much research, and realizing that the weak spot in my truck, was at idle. So I ended up doing a smaller drive pulley for the alt. This makes the alt spin faster at idle. It solved all of my...
I will go even 1 step further. There are a lot of post in this thread, that have nothing to do with trucks. When off topic post dilute a thread, it takes away from the the original intent of the thread. Who wants to read through 67 pages of post, just to gain a little knowledge. There are to...
Political post, are against the rules. Period!!! We have been more than tolerant of the little bit here, and there, but,,, if the political post don't stop, I will lock this thread. Some warning points have already been issued. I really don't want to go back through this entire thread, and start...
Looks like an after market security system. Unplug it, and if the truck still starts up fine, you should be OK, but if it won't start, then you will need to leave it in place, until you can get more info, on how to remove it.
I have an Eaton true track in my 97, with 373s. Thing is, I'm running 275/60/15 tires. The 373s on that OE, or close to the same high as OE tires are grate. You could always sale you 373s. As for the posi, you should be able to just swap the gear set. If you don't know how to do the rear end...
Yes, exactly. Life time warranty. Just fire up the new starter. It works grate. Just have to put the heat shield back on, over it. The new starter sounds totally different. Listing to it, compared to the old ones, is night and day. The old one was definitely on its last leg. Also with the new...
Ok, I got a starter from AutoZone, BC they were the only one, who had one in stock. The manual starter cone, or tip, is smaller, and made of steel, or cast iron, not aluminum. Also as I mentioned, the bolt holes are recessed, for shorter bolts.
The manual starters have shorter bolts. About 1 inch shorter. The hole that the bolt goes into on the starter is not flush with the starter on both sides on a manual transmission starter. It is recessed on the side, where the bolt head is. IDK why just yet, but I'm going to figure it out today...
Well, I guess I'm m not going to the JY tomorrow. I didn't realize that there is a different between a starter for an automatic transmission, and a manual transmission. I have a 4 speed manual in the Vette. All of the mini starters I have looked at, have some bad reviews and almost all of them...
Today, I traced the battery cable back from the starter, to the battery. Yes, I understand that there is no way to look inside of the wires, rubber shielding to see exactly what shape it's in, but after 42 years of dealing with welding leads, most of the time, a bad cable, will be swollen where...
